NEW TOOLS: NORTH SAILS DUKE 2012+STILO 300

We have rigged the new 2012 Duke by North using a Platinum 430 North mast and a Stilo 300 MaverX mast. The rigging compatibility is perfect with these differences. Less dowhnhaul with Stilo 300 (1 cm), more outhauls (1 cm), leech slightly more open and constant along the sail. The depth in the lower section is 2 cm bigger with our masts which is an indicator of much power (early planing). Claudio - Hero 2012The first one to test is the new 4 battens sails from North Sails which enters this market with a brand new model : the HERO. Developed according to the taste of Marcilio Browne it claimed to be perfect for multi-fins wave boards. In our hands we have the 4.7. The sail looks gorgeous and very, very light. It is designed for 400 RDM mast only but can accept an alternative 370. It claims to be rigged with a 5 cm downhaul on his 400 mast and with a 165 cm boom which makes it very compact.

The downhaul at 5 cm and a slight more boom outhaul ( 168) makes it just perfect (our X1000 has a slightly reduced diameter instead of a standard RDM ). The battens rotates smoothly, the leech opens up exactly where the mark is, leaving the second leech slightly opened as well.

In the hands it feels like nothingThe hero works great with the x1000. The sail has a wide wind range which is great and not what you expect from a 4 batten sail!
